The Pretty Reckless, if you don't know them, are an alternative rock group fronted by singer, actress and model, Taylor Momsem (aka Gossip Girl Jenny Humphrey). Their debut album
Light Me Up is set to be released February 8th. After hearing them play at Warped Tour 2010 and buying their self-titled EP I was pretty excited to hear the album. I don't believe I was let down at all.
.My Medicine- This song, as well as Makes Me Want To Die and Goin' Down, was on TPR's self titled EP. The song reminds me very much of the movie The Hangover. "There's a tiger in the room and a baby in the closet."
.Since You're Gone- The guitar in this is just pure genius in this breakup/girl power (yes, I said girl power) song. Taylor doesn't give a f**k about her mysterious ex-love interest and wants everyone to know 'my life has moved along quiet nicely.'
.Make Me Wanna Die- The first single and was featured on the Kickass movie soundtrack. The song helped define TPR to the world. It's a very 'edgey' song about the delights of being reckless and irresponsible.
.Light Me Up- This track is a little slower then the previous ones on the album, and is also where the album gets its name. It's much more mellow then the rest of the album. The track seems to be about the attack Taylor receives from the media about how she dresses and acts.
.Just Tonight- Another slow down track. Taylor seems to be showing her vocal ranges by preforming slower songs like this one, and then screaming her heart out on tracks such as the following track, Miss Nothing and My Medicine.
.Miss Nothing- This songs gets the album back onto its loud and edgy feel. The song also has a music video that became quiet controversial on many media websites and blogs like buzznet. The song is packed with guitar riffs and of course, Taylor's incredible voice.
.Goin' Down- Probably the most strange and sexual song on the album. Taylor seems to be singing to a priest about how she killed her lover and asks for forgiveness by offering to sleep with the priest? The story line seems a little crazy but it's also crazily catchy and will more then likey get stuck in your head after listening.
.Nothin' Left To Lose- The album slows down again with this fan favorite. The track's melody is something very easy to fall in love with. If you're thinking of buying any of TPR's songs I strongly recommend this one.
.Factory Girl- Everyone seems to know Taylor as little Miss Jenny Humpherys from Gossip Girl, and what do the girls on that show do best? If you said party then you're right. That's deffenitly what this song is about. TPR are bringing the classic rock and alternative genres back into the music scene with great pride and this song a great example of that.
.You- The album finishes off with this simple and beautiful acoustic song. This song is very meaningful and probably the easiest for fans to relate with.
